Neurofeedback clinic

Empower your mental wellbeing with advanced brain training technology that offers real-time insights into your brain activity, in enhancing your cognitive performance and nurturing your mental health.

In neurofeedback, we tap into the language of your brain—its own unique brain waves—to communicate and facilitate change.

The intricate dance of brain waves is crucial for our cognitive function and well-being. When these waves become dysregulated, it can result in a range of psychiatric or neurological challenges. Neurofeedback, a gentle and non-invasive treatment, aims to address these imbalances in brain wave activity, promoting profound healing and improved functionality in individuals.

What is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback utilises electroencephalography (EEG) technology to non-invasively provide real-time insights into brain activity. By providing positive visual or audio feedback when brain activity is in the desired range, neurofeedback empowers individuals to modify their brain function, which can foster improvements in various cognitive, emotional, and behavioural domains.

What is electroencephalography (EEG??

EEG is a non-invasive technology that allows us to learn about the brain’s activity and how this relates to behaviour and psychological experience. When groups of neurons in the brain fire together the EEG can detect this, and this can guide treatments such as neurofeedback to ensure the treatment is tailored to how your brain works.

What can it help with?

Neurofeedback has shown promising results in managing and alleviating symptoms associated with:

  • ADHD
  • Learning Difficulties
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Anxiety
  • PTSD
  • Depression
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

Neurofeedback can also be used to aid:

  • Academic and sporting performance
  • Stress management
  • General cognitive regulation
Is it right for me?

Neurofeedback is a safe, non-invasive treatment option that can be used by patients of all ages. However, determining whether neurofeedback is right for you is a collaborative process between yourself and  our dedicated support team. At BaMH, our ethos is precision mental healthcare, which means aligning treatment to your unique neuropsychological needs.

The appropriateness of neurofeedback will depend on your desired level of treatment commitment, your goals and needs, and your current and past medication conditions, as well as your brain’s activity that we learn about with EEG. Each of these are discussed with a trained therapist prior to commencing treatment.

STEP

Developing your personalised treatment plan, together

Your journey is unique, as is your treatment plan. We work alongside you to create a plan that aligns with your mental health wellbeing goals.

At BaMH, we offer a multidisciplinary team of mental health experts working with a range of treatment modalities. All of our service offerings will be considered when developing your treatment plan, to ensure you receive personalised and holistic care.

Your initial appointments are all about your specialist getting to know you and gaining an understanding of what you would like our help with.

STEP

Treatment mapping with your neurofeedback specialist

During an initial assessment, your Neurofeedback Technician will work with you to gain an understanding of your unique neurophysiological profile and history, laying the groundwork for your personalised treatment plan.

During this assessment, a neurofeedback specialist will determine whether the treatment is suitable for your condition and discuss informed consent. Our objective is to develop an individualised treatment plan that will lead to sustained positive outcomes for you.

STEP

EEG Assessment

To tailor your neurofeedback treatment, we first conduct an EEG assessment.

This is completed in person with an EEG technician. The EEG process is completely painless and involves being fitted with a cap containing sensors at different locations. Once the cap is fitted, and gel is applied to the sensors, the cap is connected to the computer to record the activity of your brain.

During the EEG you be encouraged to relax with your eyes closed or open, depending on the specific requirements of the assessment. The EEG technician will guide you through the tasks and be present to address any questions you might have.

After your EEG has been completed the technician will remove the cap and wash out any gel that is remaining in your hair.

STEP

Neurofeedback treatment sessions

During your neurofeedback treatment sessions, you will be fitted with the same EEG cap that was used to record your EEG. The cap will be used to monitor and interpret your brainwave patterns in real-time.

During neurofeedback you will receive real time feedback, often in the form of visual or auditory cues, based on your brainwave patterns. With time and repetition, the brain adapts and learns to self-regulate these patterns, leading to improvements in cognitive, emotional, and behavioural function. After the learned brain activity has been consolidated, no further sessions are needed.

Sessions typically take 30-40 minutes and are scheduled two times per week. The average number of training sessions needed is 20-40 sessions.

STEP

Helping you feel supported long-term

Continuous evaluation and refinement of your treatment plan are integral components of our commitment to your ongoing growth and progress.

At BaMH, we conduct regular reviews to assess the effectiveness of your current treatment, considering any changes in your circumstances or treatment goals. These reviews serve as opportunities for reflection, collaboration, and adjustment, ensuring that your care remains personalised and responsive to your evolving needs.
