EMDR Therapy at

Brain & Mind Hub

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a neuroscience-informed therapy that helps people process distressing memories and experiences that continue to affect their mental health.

What EMDR Helps With

EMDR may be suitable for people experiencing:

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Complex trauma (including childhood abuse or neglect)
  • Anxiety disorders (panic, social anxiety, generalised anxiety)
  • Flashbacks or intrusive memories
  • Deeply held negative beliefs about the self

How EMDR Works

EMDR is based on the understanding that the brain can become “stuck” when processing traumatic or distressing experiences.

These unprocessed memories can continue to trigger emotional and physiological responses long after the event.

Using bilateral stimulation — typically guided eye movements — EMDR helps the brain reprocess these memories, reducing their emotional intensity and allowing for more adaptive responses.

The therapy follows a structured eight-phase protocol, including:

  • History taking and treatment planning
  • Preparation and education
  • Identification of target memories
  • Desensitisation using bilateral stimulation
  • Installation of positive beliefs
  • Body scan and closure
  • Reevaluation and future planning

This process supports the brain’s natural healing mechanisms and helps clients integrate past experiences in a healthier way.

EMDR therapy at Brain & Mind Hub is currently offered by Peta Hoffmann, a Clinical Psychologist with expertise in trauma, child and adolescent mental health, and the mind-body connection

What to expect

EMDR sessions are tailored to each individual’s pace and needs. Before beginning, your psychologist will conduct a thorough assessment to determine whether EMDR is the right fit.

If it’s not, we’ll work with you to explore other evidence-based options.

Sessions are structured, goal-oriented, and grounded in neuroscience — designed to support lasting change, not just symptom relief.

Treatment period

7 weeks
