Dr Jules Mitchell is a neuroscience researcher dedicated to bridging neuroimaging and clinical practice for real-world impact. He utilises biomarkers such as electroencephalography (EEG) to understand brain dynamics and drive innovation in mental health treatment. Dr Mitchell holds a Doctorate in Psychiatry and Neuroscience (PhD), a Master of Neuroscience, and a Bachelor of Psychological Science (First Class Honours). His doctoral research was completed at the Thompson Institute, Sunshine Coast.

Areas of expertise:

EEG acquisition and analysis

Neurofeedback and TMS treatment

Biomarkers of treatment response in depression and suicidality

Bayesian statistics and mixed-effects modelling

His work sits at the intersection of cognitive neuroscience, clinical psychiatry, and advanced EEG analysis, with a focus on non-linear brain dynamics and systems-level approaches to understand and predict treatment outcomes.

Jules’ research explores EEG biomarkers as predictors of treatment response in depression and suicidality. His doctoral work focuses on understanding how brain activity and connectivity patterns relate to response to oral ketamine treatment, with the goal of contributing to precision psychiatry and advancing EEG’s clinical utility.

Jules has contributed to several publications across areas such as ketamine pharmacotherapy, neurometabolic markers in eating disorders, exercise effects on cognition in ageing, and the neurobiological impacts of cyberbullying. He is also an experienced EEG, neurofeedback, and transcranial magnetic stimulation technician, and is proficient in neuroimaging analysis.

He adopts a collaborative, analytical, and systems-thinking approach to neuroscience, bringing over five years of academic and research experience across institutions including The University of Queensland,

The Queensland Brain Institute, and The Thompson Institute.
