Supporting young people and families through compassionate, multidisciplinary and personalised care.
Our child and adolescent psychiatry service provides specialist assessment and care for children and young people aged 12 - 17 years in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Using a multidisciplinary approach, we work closely with families, schools and allied health professionals to provide individualised care that supports each child’s unique needs and wellbeing journey.
All psychiatry services require a referral from your treating General Practitioner (GP) or current medical specialist (e.g. Pediatrician).
All referrals are reviewed by our intake team, and they will be in contact with you after review to discuss your options.
If you have any questions regarding referral entry, get in touch with our team on (07) 5220 8793.
Once your referral has been received and reviewed by our clinical intake team, you will be contacted to discuss the next steps, including appointment processes and associated fees.
Child and adolescent assessments involve two 60-minute appointments.
We request that a parent or guardian attend both appointments.
Appointment 1:
The first appointment focuses on understanding parental concerns, developmental history and current mental health challenges. This involves an in-depth assessment with both the child and their family to help guide an individualised treatment plan.
Appointment 2:
The second appointment focuses on the child or adolescent, including discussion of assessment findings, diagnosis and recommended treatment options tailored to their individual needs.
Follow up appointment: If required
Follow-up appointments may be recommended where ongoing support or medication management is required. If medication is considered appropriate, this will be carefully discussed with families to ensure it is the right option for your child.
If you have any questions or concerns throughout the referral or assessment process, please contact our administration team on (07) 5220 8793.
Following assessment, our clinicians work collaboratively with families and relevant support providers to develop an indivdualised care plan tailored to the needs of each child and family.
Our psychiatrist do not offer ongoing care. They provide assessments and management plans for your referring practitioner to oversee.
We recommend a 291 referral from your referring practitioner.
