Supporting Innovation in Depression Treatment: Clinical Trial at Brain and Mind Hub Sunshine Coast
WIN News Central Queensland recently visited the Brain and Mind Hub Sunshine Coast to cover our involvement in a national clinical trial investigating psilocybin-assisted therapy for people experiencing major depression.
One in five Australians experience a mental health disorder and depression contributes significantly to the overall burden of illness. Current treatments for major depression do not work for everyone, so research into new options is important.
Brain and Mind Hub Sunshine Coast is proud to be the only clinic in Queensland selected to take part in this research. We are excited to be working towards new treatment options by participating in a clinical trial exploring the use of psilocybin, alongside psychological support to better understand its potential role in managing symptoms of major depressive disorder. The trial aims to determine safe dosage and effective therapeutic approaches.
Research to date suggests psilocybin may offer a different treatment pathway, particularly for people who have not responded well to conventional therapies. Traditional treatments remain an important part of mental health care.
This trial also aims to improve access for people in regional Queensland.
"There’s extensive evidence that shows psilocybin provides a rapid, robust response in depression and it also exceeds the response that people would get from conventional treatments."

We’re proud to be part of this important research and to be offering more treatment options for people across the Sunshine Coast.
