What is Lifestyle medicine?

Lifestyle medicine is evidence-based and supports comprehensive lifestyle changes to prevent, treat and reverse the progression of chronic disease by addressing the underlying cause.

In contrast to the conventional medical system which is disease-based towards symptom suppression, lifestyle medicine looks for the underlying cause and addresses lifestyle choices and behaviours that can be changed.

Up to 80% of all chronic diseases can be treated through addressing changes in lifestyle and everyday habits.

Working alongside you, we provide education, guidelines, recommendations, coaching and prescriptions that address the following key contributors to health:

  • Diet and exercise (including gut microbiome testing)
  • Exercise and mindful moving
  • Stress management
  • Sleep hygiene
  • Substance use
  • Community and connection
  • Environmental influences

We pay our respects to the Traditional Custodians of the Land where we learn, live and work, the Gubbi Gubbi (Kabi Kabi) people and Jinibara people. We acknowledge the Elders past, present and emerging, and recognise that they have been living and healing their communities on this land for many thousands of years. In particular, we note the leading role of First Nations women who are the custodians of sophisticated knowledge, community organisers and beacons of wisdom. We recognise the spiritual connection the Gubbi Gubbi (Kabi Kabi) and Jinibara have with the land, water, sky and sea and we extend this respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
