What happens at Brain & Imagination Group?
Our Art Therapy Group is for those with or without art or creativity experience, so don’t worry if you’re new to this – we’re ready to welcome you!
The Brain & Imagination Group provides mental health therapy support through weekly guided arts-based inquiries over a 1.5-hour duration.
Each session will include afternoon tea/snacks, a group warm-in, a main creative making activity that is accessible to all skill sets and does not require art experience.
Each process has a built-in therapy component providing a brain- and body-based approach to engaging the imagination for mental well-being. No previous arts or creativity skills are needed to engage in Art Therapy, as the content is in the process of making and creating, rather than the outcome of your artworks.
Who can benefit from attending art therapy?
Art Therapy engages parts of the brain involved in emotion, sensory experience, and cognition, facilitating self-expression and emotional processing. This creative engagement promotes neuroplasticity, improved mood, reduced anxiety, and enhanced overall mental wellbeing.
For young people with ADHD and ASD, Art Therapy can also improve focus, reduce hyperactivity, and enhance social skills by supporting sensory integration and emotional regulation.
What you'll discover:
- Ways we are the same and ways we are unique
- The things you value most
- Communicating through states of regulation
- Seeing yourself as you are in the world
