Andrea is a board-certified paediatric Clinical Neuropsychologist who specialises in neurodiversity. She works with children and teens with autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, learning disorders, intellectual disability and cognitive giftedness.
Her assessment process is shaped by an in-depth understanding of neurobiology and is designed to help each child and their family navigate through the pre- and post-diagnostic period with ease.
Emphasis is placed on working holistically across the home and school settings to gain a deeper understanding of how each child operates. This knowledge is then used to establish a tailored intervention approach to help scaffold a child’s environment so they can learn and function to their absolute capacity.
Andrea also works therapeutically with children and their families to implement strategies post-diagnosis, which are founded using the biopsychosocial model of health and wellbeing.
Andrea holds a combined Master of Psychology (Clinical Neuropsychology)/ PhD from the University of Melbourne. Her doctoral research (Murdoch Children’s Research Institute) mapped the attention and executive networks in the developing brain, and her postdoctoral research (Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology) helped to define the aetiology of the various neurodevelopmental disorders and inform best practice management around such disorders.
She has also spent 10 years working as a clinician, specialising in the assessment, diagnosis, and intervention of neurodiverse children and teens.
Dr. Murray is one of the facilitators of ehe Best of Friends program at BaMH, which combines cutting-edge research with interactive activities to facilitate social and emotional learning for children aged 7 to 11.
